10 Metro Tile Patterns for Your Home

10 Metro Tile Patterns for Your Home

Metro tiles are always a popular choice for walls. They can be used on full feature walls or small splashbacks, come in a wide range of colours, and suit most decor styles. Once you've decided on the colour and style, you need to choose how you want to lay them. Here are ten different patterns to choose from.

1. Brick Bond

First up we're keeping it classic with the old favourite brick bond. This works well for both flat and textured or bevelled tiles.

2. Herringbone

The absolute most requested pattern of the last few years, herringbone creates a repeating zig zag design. It looks absolutely fabulous but your tiler might hate you!

3. Vertical Stack

Keep it simple with tiles laid vertically with straight grout joints, this works well with bright coloured tiles as well as simple ones.

4. Basket Weave

You can create lots of different basket weave patterns depending on how many tiles you use in each 'block'. Make sure to check the grout joint widths needed to make the blocks line up nicely.

5. Vertical Brick Bond

We love how this classic pattern just flipped on it's side looks totally different! Vertical brick bond patterns work really well on fully tiled walls as you need plenty of height to make the most of the design.

6. Vertical Offset

This pattern looks simple but it keeps the eye interested by offsetting the tiles, again ideal for fully tiled walls and showers.

7. Diagonal Herringbone

A twist on the classic horizontal herringbone pattern. Why not mix and match colours to create a pattern within a pattern?

8. Horizontal Stack

Super simple but looks great on smaller splashbacks and should help to avoid extra cuts. This pattern doesn't really work with bevelled tiles but looks fantastic with flat or matt finish tiles.

9. Offset Brick Bond

Add a little extra spice to the classic brick bond by offsetting the tiles. If you really want to highlight the pattern go for a contrasting grout colour.

10. Mix & Match

Why not mix and match patterns? Here you can see vertical and horizontal stacks have been used to create a feature strip in the middle of the wall. You could even take it a step further and use two (or more!) different coloured tiles.

Whichever pattern you decide on, make sure you take your tiles out of the box and lay them out on the floor before anyone starts tiling. Size, shape, colour and texture will all have an impact on how your tiles look when installed so have a play around before you make a decision.

Grout can also have a big impact on how the tiles look when installed. A contrasting grout will highlight the pattern you have picked, while a matching colour will give a more subtle finish.
